Our Dog T-Bone

A Heartwarming Story of Life with One Really Nervous Dog

During my time of pastoring in Hawthorne, Wisconsin, stories about our dog’s battle with separation anxiety became illustrations in a number of my sermons.  In 2005 I began writing out T-Bone’s tale to put on the internet and in 2007 his story was published in book form.  “Our Dog T-Bone: A Heartwarming Story of Life with One Really Nervous Dog” is the account of T-Bone’s 13 year struggle with his extreme episodes of panic and anxiety and the patience and compassion that our family showed him during those years.   The story is humorous, heartwarming, and heartbreaking and is an illustration of God’s incredible love for people.

In the last chapter (The Face of the Master) I parallel the anxiety T-Bone felt and his overwhelming desire to “see the face of the master” with mankind’s own separation from God and the anxiety that people find themselves in because they are alienated from the presence of God.  I close the book by sharing how the wonderful love and patience of God can bring about a cure for the separation anxiety that afflicts the human heart.

If you would like me to come to your church or small group and share this story, I would welcome the opportunity.  It takes about 45 minutes to tell the basic story and I tell it in three sections:

1.    Separation Anxiety in the heart of T-Bone…I then parallel that with the anxiety that afflicts the human heart

2.     Separation Anxiety in my heart…I then parallel that to the unfathomable love that God has for people and how much He cares for them

3.    The Face of the Master (T-Bone’s overwhelming desire to “see the face of the master)…I then parallel that to the peace we find when we are in the presence of our heavenly Father

I close the message by giving an opportunity for people to give their hearts to Jesus and I also take some time to pray for people who are battling with anxieties in their own lives.

Through this story, many people who rarely attend church can find themselves being drawn into a basic Gospel witness about the love and patience that God has for them.

Again, if I can minister to your church, service organization or small group I would appreciate the opportunity.    For a list of references please see the chapter, “What Others Are Saying.”
